CBD Oil for Pets

CBD Oil for Pets

CBD is for Pets Too!

One of the most common questions we receive is "Can I give CBD to my cat or dog?" The answer is yes: your pet has an endocannabinoid system just like you and can experience the same therapeutic benefits. In fact, cannabis use for animals is nothing new - the ancient Greeks used to give cannabis to their horses for a range of ailments. We are animal lovers here at Lily Hill and several of our team members give CBD to their furry friends.

Start Low and Go Slow

Typical dosage for dogs is .5 to 5mg of CBD per 10 pounds of your pet's body weight, twice per day. CBD should be used daily for best results. We have a CBD Oil for Pets which contains 500mg of CBD blended with wild Alaskan salmon oil (great for your pet's coat!). However, any of our unflavored CBD Oils are safe for your pet. When measuring, note that one full dropper of our CBD Oil for Pets contains approximately 17mg of CBD.

Start with a low dose and increase the dose every 4 to 7 days until the desired results are achieved. The amount needed will be different for every animal and some conditions will require more CBD than others. Since pets can't tell us how they feel, you'll need to be a keen observer of their behavior so you can gauge the effects of the CBD.

You can add the oil to your pet's food at mealtime, drop some onto a treat, or just administer it straight into their mouth. Because our CBD oil is made with just salmon oil and CBD extract, you don't need to worry that you're giving them any unwanted fillers or additives.

You can also apply CBD oil topically to rashes and hot spots. However, please don't apply our CBD salve to your pet as it contains other ingredients that you may not want your kitty or pup to ingest if they lick it.

Remember, CBD is not a cure for any condition, nor is it a substitute for training if your pet is having behavior problems.

Talk to Your Vet

Always talk to your veterinarian before giving CBD to your pet to make sure it's right for them and that the CBD won't interact with any medications they may be taking.

We'd love to hear how CBD has helped your pet. Let us know in the comments below or post their picture on Instagram and tag us @lilyhill_vt!
